In 1962 when Tom Conklin was in the 2872nd GEEIA, he designed a GEEIA ball cap for the enlisted troops. It was approved by the squadron’s headquarters, and someone knew of a shop in Madrid, Spain who could produce the ball caps with the embroidering. The flags on the side of the caps were of the Mediterranean countries where they served TDY which included Spain, Morocco, Italy, Greece, Turkey and Libya. Tom took orders, and they cost about $5 each. When he left in 1963, someone took responsibility for ordering the caps. Tom still has his cap which is pictured below. |
